Lauren also worked for START Training as a sports trainer in 2023 working across AFL, Rugby Union, and Football. Lauren also had exposure to Residential and Aged Care on her placement which made her interested in the over 60 age group and how exercise improves function in daily activities.
Lauren changed career paths later in life. Previous employment included banking, conveyancing and working within the Immigration Detention network but it was her participation in powerlifting that brought her to Exercise Physiology.
Lauren competed within powerlifting for 5 years. Over this period, she podiumed at every sanctioned competition, placing first multiple times, competing at state and national level and one international competition. Lauren still is considering a return to achieve the milestone of a 200kg squat, achieving a 190kg squat of a 465kg total at her last competition.
Lauren’s experiences within powerlifting and her own mental health journey, have made her passionate about developing a healthy relationship with exercise.
Lauren is also commencing her Masters in Medical Research through Griffith University, studying the impact of hip strength and balance on ankle sprain injuries in Australian Footballers.
Outside of work, Lauren’s labradoodle, Samson, insists she spend all her spare time taking him on walks and giving him cuddles. Lauren also enjoys cooking and trying new venues for food and drinks.
